Absence and Monogrammed Clutch

This is a clutch I have been monogramming a lot of for Christmas presents.  It has three compartments plus place for credit cards between the outside and inside pouch.  This clutch is great for wristlet or over the shoulder bag.

I have neglected my blog for a while now.  I have started a small home business of embroidery and monogramming.  Plus I have requests for sewing as well.  It has overwhelmed me in what all you have to do on social media which takes away from my product time.
I promise to get back with it and share items I am making and tutorials I run across or make that might be helpful to my followers.

Embroidery Summer

I am getting ready for summer!  A word of caution, you must protect your skin, not just wear a hat.
I had a melanoma inSitu 4 years ago and I now do not go out with out wearing sunscreen, even in the winter!

I picked up this hat at Tuesday Morning.  I liked it because of the opening in the top would keep you from getting so hot.  It's an air pocket, laugh!

I used craft foam for the first time, with the embroidery and it worked out great!  I wasn't sure, because I have had it in my craft stash for years.  You know how those stashes can be. :)
It tore perfectly when the stitching was done.

I used a fast frame with sticky back to hoop the hat.
I highly recommend this if you are an embroiderer and want some substance to your embroidery.

Have a nice sunny day!

Boys Embroidered T-Shirt

Our grandson who is 5 ½ has recently has gotten into BMX biking.
The family pooled together and gave his parents money to by him an "official" BMX bike.

I bought this shirt at Walmart boys department.  It is safety yellow.
It is even brighter than the picture shows.
His helmet is black and gray with red.
I found this appliqué/embroidery by chance on EmbroideryOcean.com
It is listed under "racer helmet" .

They had it as a freebie one day and I grabbed it.  I made the 5x7.
I believe you can purchase it now for $1.00.
That to me, is great price if you happen to have a BMXer in you family.
It stitched out beautifully.  I changed up the colors to match his helmet.
I hope this help's you if you have that child in your life that loves a bicycle!

Tote Bag

My daughter found this bag among my clutter of bags in my closet.  I have had it for years.
I bought it because I love the color yellow and it matches out boat stripe.

She had me jazz it up with her initials and it completely looks like a different bag to me now.
It was never used before.

She is all excited about carrying it around on campus to her sewing classes.

This is when I am happy I have a 10 needle embroidery machine.
I love my BabyLock!!!

Girls Dress

This dress is for my grand daughter and was so much fun to make.

The fabric I used is from Michael Miller.  I made a self-covered button and put in the middle of gathered fabric for the embellishment.

In this picture you can see closeup of the button/flower.
The gathering on the shoulders is sweet also.

On the back I used two self covered buttons with the large loops included in pattern.

The buttons on the bodice can be moved closer to the edge or farther for different sizes as she grows.

The band on the bottom is double, so I will be able to let the length out as she gets taller.  She is already 4 years old!
I believe I'll be coming up with more fabric combinations for this one! :)

Wooden Cross Jewelry Hanger

I made this wooden cross for my daughter for her jewelry at college.  She collects crosses and I thought this would be a nice addition to her collection.
She wants to have a wall in her home someday that is covered in artistic crosses.  I too love the idea.

I bought the cross at Hobby Lobby when they were 50% off.  I sprayed painted it the turquoise color.
The knobs and hooks were 50% off too.  I simply drilled holes where I wanted to place them and inserted screws to adhere them to the cross.  We added a hook on the back to hang.
Here is picture with her jewelry added.

I hope this encourages you to make a jewelry holder.
This would make a lovely Easter gift!

Donations

My Mom is the State Regent of Arkansas for the DAR.  I made a bunch of scarves to donate for raising money for projects.
She asked me to just put ASDAR on them, but I wanted to make them a little fancier.
ASDAR could stand for Arizona too.
I added the State embroidery and I think it really helped pop the design.  The ladies needed scarves to wear when they are standing outside waiting for soldiers to be returned and also to wear at
 graveside events.

One of their projects is finding unmarked graves and marking them.
I feel this was a great project to support.

Are you or anyone in your family interested in genealogy?
I am a member of Pioneers and Colonial Danes as well.

Embroider It

I bought a file from Embroidery Library that I couldn't resist.
If you embroider you will feel the same way.  I have been told that all beginners feel this way,
"If It Stand Still Embroider It."

I still have this sitting in its hoop.  The embroidery was close to 40,000 stitches!  I am going to put it in a frame and hang in my studio.  The stitch out took over an hour.  There were 16 color changes.  I think I am beginning to like appliqué embroidery more. Laugh out loud!!!

If any are interested my Facebook page is
Its SEW Jodie

I used colors that I had rather than follow the chart.  I highly recommend this, because the stitch out is fabulous.

Wedding

I have a friend that's daughter is getting married on the beach.
She asked me if I had any idea what to give a grandmother as a gift.

That really caught me of guard,  because my Mother is the hardest to buy for and come up with a gift idea.
If she doesn't have it already she will get it or doesn't want it.  She is into decluttering her life and I do not blame her.  I need to do more of it myself!

Then that night I remembered a sample pack of blank handkerchiefs that I had and suggested we embroider something on it for her.

This is what we came up with.  She is in her 80's and Caroline, my friends daughter, is going to give it to her as she walks down isle on the BEACH,  March 1, 2014.

I just love this idea!  I bet she starts crying, I know I would.  I cry at all weddings!

I wish I were going to the beach!  The weather down in the South has been pretty horrid this winter.  We are expecting more winter weather this weekend.  I am so ready for warm weather.

Embroidery

I am so excited about this latest embroidery I have done.
I am always looking for ideas for adult shirts.  I came across this one at www.Urbanthreads.com

I have made this for my Step Son that is 34 for his birthday.  He loves going to concerts and listening to music.  I thought this was perfect.

Isn't this a perfect idea.  Go to Urban Threads if you do embroidery and you will find a lot of idea like this one.  I am in no way affiliated with them.  I just want to share what I find.

Happy Valentines Day!

Boy's T-Shirt

My grandson was at a BMX track just riding around on his little bicycle.  He was offered an entrance in a race.  His bicycle was way smaller than the other boys, but he entered anyway.  He just turned 5 years old.
HE WON 3RD PLACE!

I found this embroidery from EmbroideryDesign.com
I made him this t-shirt for celebratory fun.

He loved it.  I hope to get a picture of him in it soon!

Go Henry!

Sewing Studio

Today I thought I would share a work in progress.  I don't know about you all, but I am constantly rearranging and messing with the creative space.
At the start of Its Sew Jodie I shared with you all a picture of the outside of my new studio.

Here is the area in the front room where I embroidery and sew.  I also have picture of area where I cut out.  I often do that on the floor as well!  It all depends on the size of the piece I am working on.

The blue cover is over my 10 needle embroidery machine.  The black cover is over my BabyLock Ellisimo.  The two covers along the side are my serger and addition sewing machine Pfaff 2170.

Here you will see my cutting table which always has something on it.  I have to clean it off every time I start something new.
The robes are some embroidery projects I am currently working on for a bride and her maid of honor.

You will notice I collect a lot of sewing books.  They are stacked up on the right and in the cubbies.

I hope you all are having a great week sewing and creating!

Tote Bags

I have a sewing student that comes to me on Thursday's. We have become such good friends, even with age gap of  23 years.  I love working with her because she is not afraid to try anything I propose to her and many are her own ideas!

I am bragging on her today because she just finished two tote bags. She did a wonderful job picking out fabric herself.  I think she has great taste.  Tell me what you think!

The pattern is from V & Co. And is called Abbey Bag.
I posted earlier my version done in Moda Potluck measuring tapes and Riley Blake black and white mustaches.

I would love to know if you all like this pattern as much as I do.  It is large enough to use as a great stylish market tote.

Pajama's

I embroidered NEW YEAR pj's for my grand children this Christmas.
We spent New Years Eve with them and had a Bon Fire!
It was lots of fun.  : )
They have recently moved to a new house out in the country.

I live in the city and it was so much fun getting up in the morning and seeing cows out in the fields.
It can't get much more relaxing than that!

I made a big BOO BOO on my grandson's pj's and didn't realize until my daughter pointed it out.  I used a file a just bought that said Happy New Year 2013.
Not thinking old files would still be up i bought it and was in middle of embroidery before realizing date.  I added "EVE" to bottom so it wouldn't look like a mistake. Lol

Bazze of course, didn't even notice.  He is 6.
I got a picture with the three in their pajamas.

I am a grandmother and have forgotten how hard it is to get good picture of two children, much less three!!!

Did you do anything special with your children or grandchildren for New Years.  I would love for you to share.

Happy New Year!
